St Lorenz, Mission Festival

The Ephphatha Lutheran Mission Society, St. Martin Lutheran School for the Deaf and deaf Lutherans from across Michigan celebrated the 20th Annual Deaf Mission Festival with St. Lorenz Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth on August 28.

Each year Ephphatha hosts the Mission Festival in Frankenmuth for the deaf community.  The festival consists of outside worship at the St Lorenz, Frankenmuth Church Grove, followed by a BBQ  Lunch.  After lunch there is a special presentation. This is a great opportunity which provides resources and community-building for those working with the Deaf.

St. Martin Deaf School

Ephphatha Lutheran Mission Society (ELMS) in partnership with Emmanuel Lutheran in Dearborn started  St. Martin Lutheran School for the Deaf . St. Martin Lutheran School will provide the best education available in the best environment available through ASL.

In years past the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod was able to serve the Deaf community with Lutheran School for the Deaf in Detroit. After this school closed, there was no longer a way to access the youth in the Deaf community. This is why ELMS committed to starting another Deaf Lutheran School in cooperation with a hearing Lutheran School. Emmanuel has generously offered a room and joint activities during the day when students sign up for St. Martin.

With growing support our hope is to have all the funds needed to keep the school running and tuition free for the next three years.

CITA July 2022

The Church Interpreter Training Academy (CITA), formerly CITI began the 37th year of training church interpreters at Concordia theological Seminary in Ft Wayne, Indiana.  CITA had a great program for 2022!

Students at the Church Interpreter Training Academy (CITA) interpreted chapel services and attended classes designed to help them correctly interpret the Word of God in the context of the Divine Service. Please pray God‘s blessing for our teachers and instructors. This was such an important formation process for young men and women to prepare to become interpreters for LCMS churches across the country.

CTSFW Interpreted Service

As part of ELMS's outreach Pastor's Brant A. Engel and Thomas W. Dunseth take turns traveling monthly to Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne Indiana. There they participate in daily chapel by assisting in proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ to those who are deaf by interpreting the service.    Live streaming is available here.
